Miss Philippines wins Miss World

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, was crowned as the new Miss World on Saturday in Bali. The crown was passed on from last year’s Miss World – Miss China, Yu Wenxia.

Young was born in the United States and moved to the Philippines when she was ten years old. She’s acted since she was 15 years old and is now an aspiring filmmaker.

When it was announced that Young earned the title of the new Miss World, she promised to, “be myself in everything I do, to share what I know and to educate people,” according to BBC.

Miss France was the runner up in the pageant, followed by Miss Ghana. Countries from all over the world were represented in the competition, with 127 in all.

The pageant was a bit different this year due to religious concerns from some of the countries. According to CNN, the traditional bathing suit portion of the pageant was replaced with a more modest “beachwear” section.

Young, 23 years old, has promised to represent her crown by being “the best Miss World ever.”
