Samsung reveals release of new Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

This past Wednesday, Samsung Electronics revealed that it would be releasing a new gadget known as the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch that will become available October 2nd.

This digital wristwatch syncs to the users cellphone and provides the ability to send and receive calls and text messages, take pictures and use a variety of different apps, reports New York Times.

To turn the watch on, the user may press a button on the outer right side of the display screen or aim the lens located on the wristband at an object. The user may then activate the camera by swiping downwards, using Samsung's feature known as the "Memographer". To make a call, the user swipes upwards on the home screen revealing a number pad, and to answer a call, the user can simply lift his wrist to his ear.

It comes equipped with 512 megabytes of RAM, four gigabytes of internal memory and an 800-megahertz, single-core central processing unit. Its physical features includes a rubber wristband with an embedded 1.9 megapixel camera and a display screen that is 1.63 inches diagonally on top of a stainless steel surface. The watch weighs 73.8 grams and is available in a variety of colors such as, lime green, oatmeal beige, wild orange, mocha gray, jet black and rose gold.

This new technology from Samsung marks the first release of technology in the smartwatch market, ABC News reports. This new feature may just launch Samsung ahead of its other competitors such as Apple, who have not yet manufactured an item of this kind.
