Sky Ferreira and DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith arrested in New York on drug charges

Singer Sky Ferreira and Zachary Cole Smith of the group DIIV were arrested last week on drug and vehicle charges. DIIV claimed on Twitter that Ferreira didn’t do anything wrong and claimed that the cops were out to “f**k us.”

Ferreira and Smith were arrested in Saugerties, New York on Friday night, reports Pitchfork. The site notes that their arrest was detailed in The Daily Freeman. Smith was charged with misdemeanors that included criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and driving without a license. He was also charged with having an inadequate exhaust system, driving without insurance and having an unregistered motor vehicle.

Ferreira’s misdemeanors included “criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.”

Police said they spotted the two driving a 1990 Ford pickup truck and pulled the driver over after he ignored the rules of the road. They then looked up the New Jersey license plates and found that the truck was reported stolen. They also saw that there was a warrant out for Smith’s arrest from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

In the car, they found 42 decks of heroin. Police also said that Ferreira was in possession of Ecstasy.

According to the LA Times, DIIV responded to the report on Twitter. “[W]hat you're reading is a police blotter, not the outcome of a court case. these cops wanted to f**k us, and they did. sky did nothing wrong,” the group wrote.

They were released on bail and DIIV performed as scheduled at the Basilica SoundScape festival in Hudson, New York on Saturday.
