Stacy Mandelberg selected to oversee CBS limited-series programming

Stacy Mandelberg has been hired to a brand new position, to oversee CBS' limited series programming.

Mandelberg will be in charge of acquiring, developing and producing miniseries and movies, Variety reports.

It joins a similar move made by Fox, who hired Jen Mulein to run event series and NBC who hired Quinn Taylor who was brought for long form programming, which includes miniseries and movies.

President of CBS Entertainment, Nina Tassler, said, "We believe there is viewer demand for scripted projects, with built-in promotional appeal, that air over a few days, or maybe a couple weeks."

David Stapf, president of CBS Television Studios, added, "There is a lot of interest -- from writers, producers and actors -- to tell shorter-form stories that make noise in the industry as well as on a network's schedule."

The Hollywood Reporter notes the recent success of shorter series has sparked interest in producing more, similar to Under The Dome that ran for 13 episodes and has been renewed for a second season.

Another CBS show Hostages is also short-form as it's only 15 episodes, until another short-run show, Intelligence, takes its place.

Mandelberg has previously worked for Von Zerneck/Sertner Films where she was senior vice-president and developed series and movies for channels like TNT.
