The FCC received complaints over Miley Cyrus' VMA performance

The Federal Communications Commission received about 150 complaints stemming from the Miley Cyrus MTV VMA performance.

The problem for the people that complained, the FCC lacks the authority to penalize cable networks like they can with channels like NBC or CBS, E! Online reports.

Some of the complaints The Smoking Gun reported were, "If you fined Justin & Janet...Miley should be excommunicated from the music community!"

One complaint claimed they were "not a prude," but wondered "where has censorship gone?"

According to TheWrap, other comments included, "Miss Milly Cyrus should be fined and jailed for performing such sexually provocative material on TV."

"Miley Cyrus needs to be detoxed from her behavior, her clothing, her dances moves and taught how to keep her tongue in her mouth. I suggest 12 months in a convent!" another complaint said.

The result of Cyrus' VMA performance has been both positive and negative for her. Her recently released video for "Wrecking Ball" broke a Vevo record for views in a single week.

But the Hannah Montana actress lost her cover for Vogue because Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour was not impressed by performance.
