‘World War Z’ director Marc Forster won’t return for sequel with Brad Pitt

Considering the troubled production the original film went through, it should come as no surprise that director Marc Forster is not coming back for the sequel to World War Z. Brad Pitt has already said that a sequel to the hit film is in the works.

In an in-depth look at Pitt’s Plan B production company, The Hollywood Reporter noted that the WWZ sequel is in the early stages, but that Forster will not be back.

THR also brought up rumors that the Quantum of Solace director and Pitt stopped communicating during production, notes Bleeding Cool. Writer Damon Lindelof, who had been brought in by Paramount at the last minute to help come up with a new ending, disagreed with those rumors, noting that the two did respect each other.

“The idea they were not speaking was not my experience,” Lindelof told THR. “And more importantly, the way Brad talked about Marc and Marc talked about Brad was entirely respectable, as if they were both creative partners trying to fix a problem.”

Despite all the production issues, WWZ did end up earning decent reviews and earned $539 million worldwide. So, while it makes perfect sense that Paramount wants a sequel, it’s also understandable why Forster dropped out.

Pitt said earlier this month that there are discussions about a sequel, adding, “We gotta get the script right first to determine if we go further.”
