'Back in the Game' Recap: 'Stay in or Bail Out'

Back in the Game returned this week with even more laughs.

Terry wakes up in the cluttered room she is sharing with Danny, unable to find the alarm clock. She then enters the bathroom after The Cannon has finished using it. She quickly backs out and tells Danny not to go in. Terry then tries opening the door to the master bedroom in order to use that bathroom. The Cannon stops her and the two argue over the fact that no one uses the master bedroom/bathroom and they desperately need the space, especially the second bathroom because hazmat suits couldn’t protect them from what The Cannon “drops” in the bathroom. The two continue to argue and Terry threatens to move out. The Cannon still doesn’t back down. Danny comes out in a scuba mask in order to safely head into the bathroom.

At baseball practice, The Angles are aimlessly running around while the other teams are actually practicing. The Cannon tells Terry she needs to work on their skills and the two begin to argue again. The team is running around, one kid is climbing a fence, another is dancing around, while another is getting a pizza. Batting practice starts and all of the boys are scared of the ball. Each boy steps out of the batters box because they’re afraid of getting hit by the ball. One kid even says, “I’m scared in the box. It might as well be a coffin.” Terry urges them to conquer their fears as she promises them that it will only hurt for a second if they do get hit. Terry then leaves The Cannon in charge as she heads out to find a job so she and Danny can move out. On her way out, Dick stops her and continues to be an annoying jerk as he offers her a job that she refuses. Having no luck in finding a job, Terry resorts to applying at a dealership. She used to sell cars for her ex-husband. Meanwhile, Danny Sees The Cannon hide the key to the master room so he steals it and enters the room. The Cannon stops him and pays him not to say a word to his mother about anything he saw in there.

After lying about selling cars to celebrities, Terry lands the sales job at the car dealership as the boss comments on how hot she is. He’s clearly hired her based on appearance as he calls her Mary instead of Terry. Disgusted that she took the job, Terry stops to see Lulu. Terry tells Lulu she doesn’t want to sell cars because everyone hates car salesmen. Terry tells Lulu that everyone hates Nazi’s, car dealers, and serial killers, in that order. Lulu, trying to make a martini, reassures Terry that, “Everybody hates their jobs. That’s why there are alcohol salesmen.” Both women then drink the vodka straight from the bottle.

The next day, The Cannon is in charge of practice again. He takes the boys to a prison to teach them to stay in the batters box. He tells the boys that the warden at the prison acquires criminal baseball players. Immediately, one of the prisoners comes up to the boys saying, “You know why they call me ‘The Blade’?” One boy fearfully replies, “Because you were an ice skater?” The Cannon aims to scare the boys into staying in the batters box as they are told that the guard dogs will attack if they step out of the batters box.

Back at the dealership, Terry’s good heart gets the better of her as she stops a woman from spending too much on a car and sends her across the street to another dealership. Her boss comes out questioning why she let the “dumb woman” get away. Disgusted, Terry then locks her boss in a trunk of a car and quits.

With the guard dogs on attack mode, Danny panics. The Cannon tells him he can do it. He reminds Danny that’s he’s faced scarier moments, like leaving Michigan with his mother. He tells him that if he just does it one time, he won’t be scared anymore. Danny steps back up to the plate and nicks the ball. The team cheers and the boys confidently walk out of the prison gates.

After quitting her job, Terry meets up with Lulu at Line Drive Pizza desperate for a cheap beer. After complaining about not being able to order only a slice of pizza and pitchers of beer, Terry asks to see the manager. This ends with her getting a job at Line Drive Pizza, which she later realizes is owned by Dick.

At practice, Terry is surprised when Hunter stays in the batter’s box as she pitches to him. She says, “Now you just have to try swinging the bat,” to which Hunter timidly replies, “No thanks.” Each boy remains in the batters box, but still can’t hit the ball. Baby steps. When she asks the team what they did yesterday, Danny replies, “Uh, we spent some time in the cage,” knowing full well that she wouldn’t approve of the prison field trip. Danny sits on the bench next to The Cannon and begs him to face his fear of letting Terry into the master bedroom. He tells his grandfather he likes living with him and doesn’t want to move.

Later that evening, The Cannon is sitting in the master bedroom with the door open when Terry enters. She realizes he has left it the exactly as her mother left it. The two bond and he informs her, “This is our house. There’s no more of that moving out crap.” The bonding moment is quickly ended as the two sarcastically argue over finishing the bathroom as The Cannon says he’s waiting for toilet seats to go on sale.

Make sure you tune in Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30 c on ABC to see how The Cannon tops the prison field trip.
