Christmas comes early for Ohio boy fighting cancer

The residents of Port Clinton, Ohio gathered together to celebrate Christmas to make Devin Kohlman, an eighth grader battling cancer, happy for at least a day.

Devin, 13, is dealing with an aggressive form of cancer and was being treated at a Cincinnati hospital. According to the Port Clinton Herald, he had wished to return home for Christmas and arrived at his home Sunday night.

On Monday morning, he was greeted volunteers who decorated the area in full Christmas gear. Devin was able to see the people outside the window of his mother’s home. “There must have been 30 people there,” Port Clinton Safety-Service Director Tracy Colston told the paper.

City employees helped out, with Mayor Vince Leone even contributing a Christmas Tree. Volunteers decorated the tree, ensuring that Devin could see the lights and read signs wishing him a Merry Christmas. Hundreds even sang Christmas carols for him.

The NY Daily News notes that Devin’s mother, Alexis, was most impressed by Santa Claus, who showed up riding a motorcycle.

“Hey, you guys, Santa Claus on a motorcycle got the biggest smile I’ve seen in a while,” Alexis told the crowd.
