Daily Wrap of All Things for October 1: 'Catching Fire,' 'Desolation of Smaug,' and government shutdown

Here’s our daily wrap for Tuesday October 1st:

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tickets went on sale today and are already going fast. The film doesn’t come out until November 22 but is a big hit with the fans after the first Hunger Games movie came out last year. The newest film poster also came out today featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen aiming a bow at the viewer. The film also stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

The newest Hobbit movie Desolation of Smaug comes out in December and has just released its second trailer. The trailer gives viewer a better look at what the second film has to offer as well as what characters will be joining Bilbo on his journey. Orlando Bloom is back from Lord of the Rings to play Legolas and will be joined by Lee Pace who plays Thranduil who we saw briefly in the first film. The film also features Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the dragon Smaug. Desolation of Smaug comes out December 13th.

For the first time in 17 years the government shutdown after they failed to reach a budget agreement. This results in over 800,000 employees being furloughed and many public places such as the National Zoo being closed. However the military will continue to be paid thanks to a bill that the President and Congress approved before the shutdown.
