Ed Burns to write, direct, star in TNT cop drama pilot

TNT has green lit a cop drama pilot from Ed Burns, where he will also write, direct and star.

Deadline reports that TNT has ordered a pilot for Public Morals. Stephen Spielberg, Darryl Frank and Burns will executive produce, while Amblin TV and TNT Original Prods will produce.

Burns will play Terry Muldoon, a cop who works in New York City’s Public Morals Division in 1976. The plot follows cops who tread between morality and criminality as they try not to get tangled in the vice they are attempting to police.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Muldoon is familiar with there being a thin line between good and bad, but will raise his sons to be hardworking and forthright.

Burns has family history he can look back on as his father, Edward J. Burns, was with the NYPD in the 1960s. Burns will be appearing in the upcoming six-episode TNT drama Mob City by Frank Darabont. Burns did not pull triple duty on that miniseries; the last time he did was for NBC’s The Fighting Fitzgeralds, which he co-created with his brother, Brian.
