George Clooney says he didn’t write any scenes in ‘Gravity'

George Clooney denied taking any part in writing one of the key scenes in Gravity, the hit new sci-fi film that co-stars Sandra Bullock and was directed by Alfonso Cuaron.

“I didn’t write any scene,” Clooney said in an interview with TheWrap.

Clooney was responding to reports that he had written one of the key scenes in the film, in which he appears as a ghost in a dream of Sandra Bullock’s character, helping her with a major problem.

“That scene was there from the minute I was handed the script, “ he told TheWrap. “The problem they were having was afterward.”

Clooney’s interview came after Vulture published an interview with Cuaron, in which the director attributed the key scene to Clooney.

In the interview, Cuaron said that Clooney offered to help with a scene he was having trouble writing. “And then one night I receive an e-mail from him, saying, ‘I heard you were struggling with this. I took a shot with the scene, Read it. Throw it out.’ And we ended up using it. This was exactly what we needed,” he said.

When asked what that scene was, Cuaron describes the dream sequence, adding, “And that’s something that George wrote. You have an amazing partner when you work with him.”

But in the interview with TheWrap, Clooney said that people should not interpret that to mean that he wrote the whole scene.

“Alfonso’s such a sweet guy. He hands out credit to everyone all the time,” Clooney said. “I said, ‘You guys are struggling, here’s an idea.’ So I wrote out a scene, and there’s a portion of it in the movie about Sandy wanting to live. They were struggling with how to tell people she wants to live, and I said, ‘Maybe you say she talks to her little girl and says Mommy loves her.’”

Gravity set the record for the best October opening at the box office this weekend. You can check out our review here.
