ICON Science Fiction, Inc launches Indiegogo campaign to fund 2014 I-CON conventions

ICON Science Fiction, Inc has announced they will be turning to crowdfunding in order to generate enough money to fund two conventions in 2014.

ICON has started an Indigogo Campaign called I-Con Returns as it seeks to raise $120,000 to host two conventions in 2014. LI-CON, would be a smaller event in March, leading up to the main event of I-CON 32 in June.

I-CON is a yearly convention that seeks to increase interest in science fiction and technology. Held on Long Island, I-CON is a three day event organized by ICON Science Fiction, Inc. I-CON features booths on different topics such as science fiction, technology, medieval reenactment, anime, comics and more.

"I-CON has given a lot to me - and to many people I know - over many years," I-CON volunteer David Cortijo said of the crowdfunding efforts. "I think it's fantastic we've got this opportunity to give something back to the organization, and to ensure it's there for the next generation."

The non-profit organization is offering different tiers of "perks" that donators can pledge money. The base pledge is $2 and increasing from there, people can earn items, such as a simple thank you notes, t-shirts and bumper stickers. For the highest tiers, visitors can donate to earn membership for either or both I-CON conventions and even a lifetime membership is available.

Each year, I-CON attracts over 6,000 convention goers through its doors.
