Jimmy Fallon and The Roots prepare for 'The Tonight Show'

Jimmy Fallon explains that he will not be copying Jay Leno's style or bits when he converts to The Tonight Show.

In an interview with The Orlando Sentinel, Fallon spoke about what the differences would be when he goes to The Tonight Show.

"We’re on an hour earlier and we have better sofas," Fallon said. "We have nicer upholstery."

As for what will remain the same, Fallon explains that he will stick to his Saturday Night Live roots and continue doing skits and impressions.

"I do sketches, I act, I do impressions. It's just part of my background, so I have to do that stuff," Fallon said. "There's a hole in late night for that. No one else is doing it. We started doing it five years ago and we've gotten really good at it. I'm doing musical stuff, 'cause I love music and so do the Roots. And people look forward to doing musical stuff when they come on our show."

The Roots will also be moving with Jimmy to The Tonight Show. Yahoo! reports that they are working on writing a new theme song for show.

"We're trading musical ideas," drummer ?uestlove said. "Everyone is sort of lining up wanting to give me musical ideas. 'Why don't you do this?' 'Why don't you do that?'"

?uestlove also explains that they're working on walk-on music for the celebrities that appear on the show, explaining that it is starting to get a little tough.

"Now that people are familiar with the show, there's a weird pressure on us now," ?uestlove said. "Now they expect something, like, 'What song are you going play for me? What are you going to hit me with?'"

When asked if he is nervous about the transition, Fallon replied:

"A little bit. I’m excited. I don’t know what it’s going to be like. It’s like that moment behind the curtain before you’re about to go on. You see the spotlight hit the curtain. I can almost see the audience, but not really. Then the Roots are playing, and the curtain opens up, and it’s that bright spotlight in your face... I’m used to it now and I feel comfortable in that studio in the suit. I look forward to being that person. I love pop culture"

Fallon will take over The Tonight Show early next year.
