Katie Holmes finally joins Twitter, writes from South Africa during ‘The Giver’ production

Katie Holmes has finally joined Twitter and has been sending messages from South Africa, where she is working on the film adaptation of The Giver.

Holmes is using the handle @KatieHolmes212 and has already earned the blue-check verification mark from Twitter. Her first message was directed to producer Nikki Silver, who tweeted a picture of the crew together. “[L]oving South Africa,” she wrote to Silver.

Her next tweet read, “So happy to be on twitter!!!!!! Sending first tweets from South Africa!!!!!” She then retweeted a message from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics (she is their celebrity endorser, after all). Her most recent tweet reads, “On set today filming the Giver. Love working with [director] Phil Noyce am so grateful for such a wonderful experience.”

Jeff Bridges and Taylor Swift, who can be seen in the photo Holmes retweeted, co-star in The Giver with Holmes. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s classic novel and is being produced by The Weinstein Company. It has been scheduled for release on Aug. 15, 2014.

Meryl Streep also has a role in the film, but she is not in South Africa. She’s currently working in London on the Disney musical Into The Woods.

Holmes split from Tom Cruise last year and the two are parents of Suri Cruise.
