Katy Perry’s ‘PRISM’ lands at No. 1 on Billboard

Katy Perry is enjoying the success of her most recent album, PRISM and now has one more reason to celebrate. PRISM entered into the Billboard 200 chart in the top spot.

According to the LA Times PRISM sold 286,000 copies last week.

Perry had been doing a whirlwind of promotions around PRISM which included performances on Good Morning America and Saturday Night Live.

This is Perry’s second No. 1 debut, following her latest album, Teenage Dream, added Billboard. PRISM outsold the Nos. 2-9 on the charts combined.

PRISM is also the largest debut for a female pop artist’s album since Madonna’s MDNA, which was released back in April of 2012.

PRISM was a very personal effort from Perry. The album dealt with topics such as her very public divorce from comedian Russell Brand to dating John Mayer. Fans of Perry supported her publicly through those hard times and are now supporting her music in full.
