Meg Ryan to star in comedy for NBC

Meg Ryan is the latest big name movie star to sign on for a TV show. The Sleepless in Seattle actress has signed on to star in and executive produce a half-hour comedy for NBC.

Ryan has been cast as a single mom who used to be a brilliant editor and returns to her publishing company in New York, notes Variety. But she is now working under Brenda, a former intern and a very demanding 30-year-old. Other characters in the show will include Ryan’s character’s teenage children, her ex-husband and her mother-in-law. The project was written by Marc Lawrence (Miss Congeniality, Family Ties).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan is co-executive producing with her manager, Jane Berliner, for Universal TV with Reserve Room Productions.

Ryan has recently appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Web Therapy, but she hasn’t had a regular series role since ABC’s Wildside in 1985. That show was cancelled after six episodes.

Of course, Ryan went on to star in Top Gun, When Harry Met Sally..., Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail. The 51-year-old lives in New York was on the cover of last week’s People Magazine, which profiled her current lifestyle away from Los Angeles.
