Nicholas Cage wins Best Global Actor award in China

Monday night, China named Nicholas Cage the Best Global Actor in Motion Pictures at the Huading Awards.

The Raising Arizona was there to receive the award in person, because he is currently filming Outcast in China with Hayden Christensen, ComicBook.com reports.

Nicholas Cage is an interesting choice for Best Global Actor as he is often seen as a joke, both in his movie choices and his overacting tendencies. He does, however, have an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas.

The Huading Awards are chosen through fan votes and span more than just movies, including theater, dance and music.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said, "I believe in the genius loci of a place, the genie of the place is what I call it, I absorb that energy and it affects performance wherever I go."

"...Making a movie in China. I'm buzzing with good energy, I feel great here. I love the people I'm working with, I love the crew, and there's a genuine warmth and enthusiasm that I get from my conversations."

Other stars who won awards at Huading were Quentin Tarantino for Best Global Director, Matthew Perry, Michelle Dockery, Sam Worthington and Avril Lavigne. Perry and Dockery attended the awards and left handprints on star-shaped plaques for the Avenue of Stars in Macau.
