Prince William presents honor to Andy Murray in first investiture

In the latest sign that Prince William is taking on more royal duties, William hosted his first investiture today, honoring tennis star Andy Murray with an OBE.

According to the BBC, William stood in for his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. It is the among the new royal duties he has taken on since he left the Royal Air Force in September. The ceremony honors U.K. citizens for their achievements across several fields, but Murray was the best known star at the event.

Murray actually feared that he wasn’t going to be on time. “In the middle of a drug test hahaha I'm goin to be late!!!” he tweeted. However, he did make it and was presented an OBE (Order of the British Empire).

As the Mirror notes, Murray became the first U.K. singles winner at Wimbledon in 77 years in July, beating Novak Djokovic. He is currently ranked fourth in the world.

Vicar Of Dibley producer Jon Plowman was also presented an OBE. Broadcaster Aled Jones received an MBE, as did conservationist Helen Butler.

William started his “transitional” year after leaving military service. The Duke of Cambridge is second in line to the British throne, after his father, Prince Charles. William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, welcomed Prince George Alexander Louis this summer.
