Second blonde girl found in Dublin settlement, Roma dealing with resurfacing prejudice

Another blonde haired girl has been found living with a Roma family, this time in Dublin. The recent news surrounding Roma settlements have Roma families worried.

The 7-year-old girl, who was living in south Dublin with a Roma family, was removed by gardai (Irish police force), The Sunday World is exclusively reporting.

Gardai responded to a tip on Monday that a blonde haired girl was seen living with a Roma family, despite lacking any physical similarities to her siblings. When Gardai talked to the parents, they insisted the girl was their daughter, though her siblings bear no resemblance.

The parents failed to produce a birth certificate and claims that the girl was born in the Coombe hospital seem unfounded. A birth certificate was eventually handed to gardai, but was cited as inconclusive.

The case is interestingly similar to one that just happened in Greece, where a blonde haired blue-eyed girl was found living with a Roma family after police there conducted a raid.

These recent events have Roma families worried, The Independent notes. Maria, a 20-year-old mother, says that the community is getting looked at closely and poorly, something she says they deal with in everyday life.

"They call us Roma on the TV but in the streets they shout out 'gypsy', spitting and walking away from us," she said. "The press says we dance like monkeys and bears, just because we're celebrating - they want to ridicule us."

The recent cases has only served to increase tension.
