Instead of ghosts, there is a real life threat in Tom Hanks’ new thriller.An unarmed American cargo ship is attacked off the coast of Somalia in Captain Phillips. The PG-13 film is based on the true story of the MV Maersk Alabama and its crew who were pirated and held hostage in 2009. It focuses on the standoff between Alabama’s captain Richard Phillips and the Somali pirate captain, Muse. Tom Hanks stars in the two hour and thirteen minute dramatic thriller. The film is available in 2D and IMAX theaters.
The president hires a former Federale agent to take down a terrorist in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills. Travelling through Mexico, Machete tries to halt a nuclear war while battling assassins out to kill him. Shakespeare’s classic love story Romeo & Juliet is back on the big screen. In the PG-13 film, young lovers struggle with their relationship because of the deep seeded hatred between their families. The romantic drama runs for one hour and fifty-eight minutes.

The “happiest place on earth” gets scary for a family man in Escape from Tomorrow. Filmed without permission at Disney, the one hour and thirty minute horror film tells the story of a recently unemployed man at the famous park with his family. The magical place plays with the man’s sanity, haunting him with its characters, puppets and rides. The unrated film is available in limited theaters.
Following the death of her father, a young woman falls into a depression in I Will Follow You Into the Dark. She begins to experience happiness again when she meets Adam. Things are going well for her until one night she wakes up to find Adam missing and blood next to her in the bed where he was laying. The unrated, romantic horror film stars Mischa Barton and Ryan Eggold. It’s running in limited theaters for two hours and twenty-one minutes.

When a radical religious leader tries to take over the land she owns with her husband, things become deadly. January Jones and Ed Harris star in the one hour and thirty-four minute drama. New York’s legendary punk venue is the setting for the limited released film CBGB. The one hour and forty-one minute drama showcases the Lower east side locale that was the stage for The Ramones, Blondie, Green Day, Soul Asylum, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, George Thorogood, The Black Crowes, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers among others. Founded by Hilly Kristal in 1973 as a Country, Blues and Blue Grass music club, CBGB ended up a rock n’ roll institution featuring original music. The film stars Alan Rickman, Malin Akerman, Justin Bartha, Johnny Galecki, Ashley Greene, Taylor Hawkins and Bradley Whitford. IT’s rated R for language, sex, drugs and violence.
