Walmart offers employee job back after being fired for aiding woman being assaulted in store parking lot

A selfless and heroic deed done by a Michigan Walmart employee ended up landing the man in hot water.

Kristopher Oswald was sitting in his car while he was on his work break at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday during his shift at Walmart, where his job was to restock the store’s pet food. He suddenly heard a woman scream and when he looked to see where the scream had come from, he saw a man on the hood of the woman's car.

Panicked, the female driver tried to shake the man off of her car at first, reports USA Today. Then the woman got out of her car and the man grabbed her, pushing her up against the car.

That is when Oswald sprung into action. He ran over to help, but the man attacked him.

“I’m going to kill you,” the man told Oswald as he punched him repeatedly in the head, reports WXYZ-TV.

Oswald told the Detroit-based station that he somehow managed to get on top of the man, but two other men jumped on him from behind. Livingston County sheriff’s deputies soon arrived and subdued the attackers, ending the fight.

When Oswald returned to work, he was shocked by what happened next.

He was called into his managers’ office and was told that they were proud of him for helping the woman, but they had to fire him.

The paperwork reportedly said that "after a violation of company policy on his lunch break, it was determined to end his temporary assignment.," reports the Kansas City Star. Oswald had been working at the Walmart for seven weeks, but the company requires that employees go through a 180-day probation before they are considered permanent employees.

The Daily Mail reports that Walmart has since offered Oswald his job back, but he said that he did not know if he wanted to go back to work for Walmart because he had been fired for doing the right thing.
