'White Collar' Recap: Out of the Frying Pan

Following the season opener last week, this episode of White Collar brought on a lot of new changes for the crew.

Neal showed up to work, late as usual, only to find the entire team already in the debriefing room. As Peter greeted Neal, he said his new handler was in there. Neal walked in, talking his time to scan the room and try and figure out who it was. While asking some questions, and discussing a case involving an online site for selling art and antiquities on the black market, Neal figured out who his handler was. FBI Agent David Siegel, played by Warren Kole, reveals himself to Neal and Peter. At their first interaction, Siegel praised Neal for his cooperation with the FBI and his general intelligence. When Neal left the room, Peter warned Siegel not to flatter Neal too much or it would go to his head. Siegel told Peter he knew exactly what he was doing, just playing to get on Neal's good side.

With the black market site up, the team decides to make a set of fake names to distract buyers, so they have some extra time find the perpetrators. Dianna decides she is going to start 40 new users, trying to push herself and stay on the team, even though she is 8 months pregnant.

Meanwhile, Siegel, trying to prove himself as the newbie in the division, finds a small case he wants to crack with Neal. Little Star Merchandise is the new target for Siegel, though not really on the radar, he says its "a diamond in the rough." Neal says they should be more focused on a bigger bust, like arms dealers, but Siegel insists. They decide to go check out the warehouse. While outside trying to decide a tactic, Neal says he will go in pretending to be an art dealer that missed his appointment, and then call Siegel in after he scopes it out. Neal walks inside, revealing Mozzie working. Neal tells him immediately to get out of there, that he is working. Mozzie grabs some teeth and said he is going to do the Roanoke practice, starts a fire, but Neal puts it out immediately. The fire alarm goes off and Siegel runs in, pulling out a gun. Mozzie distracts him by setting off a phonograph and escaping. Siegel is able to grab Mozzie's laptop and is going to try to salvage some evidence, since he has some computer forensic experience.

Siegel and Neal fill in Peter and Clinton, and they immediately think the perpetrator is Mozzie. Peter has Neal draw a sketch. To get them off Mozzie's back, Neal draws one picture that looks nothing like Mozzie, and behind it draws a picture of Mozzie. When Peter asks Neal to show Siegel in front of him, he switches the pictures, without either of them knowing.

Siegel starts to crack the computer, finding a name, Teddy Winters. Neal goes to meet Mozzie at his place, and tells him to burn the alias. Moz explains that he is Teddy Winters. When he was younger, Moz went searching for his true identity, searching for birth certificates that didn't have a grave or a body. Teddy Winters was the only certificate that wasn't accounted for. He kept all his assets in that name in case his parents ever went looking. Neal and Moz decide to do the Roanoke practice.

Neal brings the napalm to the warehouse, then returns to the office, while Moz sets up the scene. Meanwhile, on the black market site, Diana sees the Little Star Merchandise user is becoming very active, so the team decides to go over to the warehouse. Moz is outside with a gas mask and runs back into the warehouse, just as the FBI pull up. Then the building explodes.

The team heads back to the office, giving up on Teddy Winters. Neal drops off his report to Peter, who tells him that the Dutchman is back on trial tomorrow, and that the evidence is in. Neal says he is going home, but heads up to the evidence room, breaks in, and destroys the evidence.

Meanwhile, Diana, wanting to prove herself, returns to the burnt warehouse, and finds 3 manhole covers next to each other. She opens the one that doesn't belong, and goes down. Inside, she minds Mozzie and tries to arrest him. Just as this is happening, she starts going into labor.

Everyone goes to the hospital to meet Diana and see the baby. As Clinton, Elizabeth, Moz, and Neal leave the room, Peter asks Diana about the baby. The doctors said she had the baby before she got to the hospital. Diana says that a stranger helped her, but she never got the name. Peter says it doesn't seem like justice is being served since she doesn't know who to thank.
