‘The Mindy Project’ Recap: ‘Wedding Crushers’

Despite airing two days before Thanksgiving, there wasn’t a turkey in sight on last night’s episode of The Mindy Project. Instead, we saw the return of Mindy’s ex-boyfriend Josh and the introduction to Danny’s younger brother Richie.

Mindy’s gorgeous sports attorney turned drug addict ex was getting married, and Mindy needed a date to the wedding. Her first choice, Danny, couldn’t make it, since his younger brother was visiting. After considering and passing on Morgan, Jeremy, and even an escort service, Mindy asked Peter. Rather, Peter forced Mindy to ask him. Since his girlfriend Becca broke up with him, it’s been a lonely time for Peter. Mindy, the good co-worker that she is, took pity on him and gave him an invite.

Peter lived up to his self-proclaimed title of “Mr. Wedding,” when he came to pick up Mindy. To me, he normally looks like a lovable older brother but clean-shaven and in a suit...wow. Okay, who got us so off topic? Back to the recap!

Married Josh seemed like a changed man. During the reception, he gave a beautiful toast and carved wooden rocking chairs for him and his bride. His transformation nearly pushed Mindy over the edge, but Peter gave her one of his signature pep talks and pulled her on the dance floor. Mr. and Mrs. Wedding were born.

Peter danced with flower girls, schoomzed with bridesmaids, and even caught the bouquet. Josh later met up with Mindy to tell her that she and her date were the life of the party. Mindy swam in the glow of his compliment for just a moment before disaster struck. As she opened the door to the ladies’ bathroom, she revealed Peter and Josh’s new wife Corinne having sex on a diaper changing table.

“She threw herself at me! I can’t say no, you know? It’s her day!” Peter said, while putting his pants back on.

Josh quickly explained that Corinne recently got out of rehab for sex addiction, before storming out of the bathroom. Mindy found him in his hotel room replicating cocaine lines with powdered sugar. He confessed that Corinne had cheated on him before, but wanting to prove he wasn’t an ex-druggie loser, he naively forgave her. Now Josh dreaded telling his wedding guests what had happened.

To make up for her date ruining his marriage, Mindy promised to do what she does best at weddings—see episode one as proof—and ruined it. Mindy told the guests that she came onto Josh, because she’s still hung up on him. Yes, she got cake thrown at her, but she proved she’s an amazingly loyal ex-girlfriend.

Back before Peter’s nuptial indiscretion, Danny’s younger brother came to visit from Miami. He charmed the entire office upon his arrival but also had everyone suspecting that he was gay. Morgan was concerned that Danny didn’t know, and if he did, he wouldn’t approve.

Morgan tested Danny’s tolerance at his party that night, but Danny already knew and didn’t care that Richie is gay. In fact, Danny is immensely proud of him, since he practically raised Richie when their father left.

Speaking of their father, Richie gave Danny a vinyl Miami Vice soundtrack as a gift from their dad, which he immediately crushed with his hands. Apparently, Richie has been forging a relationship with their dad, but Danny wants nothing to do with him.

The two brothers had a nice moment as they discussed their strikingly different attitudes toward their dad. Richie explained that he isn’t mad at their father, because he never felt abandoned with Danny as his surrogate dad. The Castellano boys made up, but Danny seemed no closer to wanting to talk to his father.

What did you think of the episode? How’d you like the newest Castellano? Did your jaw drop when you saw Peter hooking up with the bride? Please tell me I am not the only one! Comment below!
