Actress Jean Kent dies at 92

Actress Jean Kent passed away at the age of 92 in the hospital after suffering an injury during a fall at her home in Westhorpe, Suffolk.

Family friend Michael Thornton, who is also an author and former film critic, revealed the news, BBC News reports. "I knew Jean for more than 50 years. She was a feisty, funny, outspoken character who never took herself too seriously."

Thornton added, "She knew what it meant to be a star and regarded it as her job to live up to that position and never to disappoint the public."

Kent was a big film and television star in Britain during the 1940s and 50s. She was often seen in Gainsborough melodramas after the end of World War II.

She said back in 2011 that she was still interested in acting provided she "didn't have to walk." Kent added, "A nice sitting-down part would be fin."

According to The Mirror, Kent's last public appearance was in 2011 when the British Film Institute honored her on her 90th birthday. The BFI also showed her film Caravan, on which set she met her husband Jusuf Ramart.

She has appeared in movies alongside Laurence Olivier, Michael Redgrave and Marilyn Monroe.
