Bill Murray joins HBO’s ‘Olive Kitterridge’

Billy Murray will be making a return to the small screen in the upcoming HBO miniseries based on Elizabeth Strout’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Olive Kitteridge.

The Huffington Post reported that the HBO miniseries will be directed by Lisa Cholodenko, who is known for directing The Kids Are All Right.

The story will focus on a New England town fraught with affairs, crime and tragedy. The show will be seen through the eyes of Olive, who has a strong moral center and a tough exterior. Olive will be played by Frances McDormand.

Deadline reported that Murray will join the cast as Jack Kennison, a local widower whom Kitteridge befriends.

Murray is known for his roles in a variety of films from Caddyshack to Lost in Translation.

Also staring in Olive Kitteridge will be Richard Jenkins who plays Olive’s husband, and John Gallagher Jr, Rosemarie DeWitt, Zoe Kazan and Cory Michael Smith.

HBO has not yet released a date when the mini series will start airing.
