CBS' Lara Logan: 'we were wrong' on Benghazi report

CBS' Lara Logan apologized on Friday for an inaccurate report that the network did as a 60 Minutes segment that wondered about the Obama administration's response during the Benghazi incident.

It all stemmed from false information provided by a source, identified as Dylan Davies, who was a local security contractor, CNN reports. He had claimed that he went to the Benghazi compound and suggested that the administration had not done all it could to save the four who died. He claimed that his employer at the time told him to stay away from the compound.

This report led Republicans in Congress to start demanding inquiries and asking whether everything that could be done to try and save those who died in Benghazi had actually been done.

Logan spoke on CBS This Morning and apologized saying, "In this case, we were wrong. We made a mistake." She added, "That's disappointing for any journalist. It's very disappointing for me."

According to Los Angeles Times, Davies account of events came under question when the Washington Post reported that CBS' source told a different account of what happened earlier.

Logan said, "We take the vetting of sources and stories very seriously at '60 Minutes' and we took it seriously in his case. But we were misled and we were wrong, and that's the important thing."

CNN notes that Logan admitted that Davies had told the FBI "a different story."
