China to lighten its one-child policy, abolish labor camps

China is an ancient land of traditions, a place that is both very modern and very much tied to the past. But now the country is scheduled to drastically change due to reforms that will affect China's two most controversial policies.

The Guardian reported that China has promised to ease up on their strict one-child policy by as well as end their re-education through labor program. The paper notes that under this new policy, a couple can be allowed to have two children if one of them is an only child, which is a big change from the old policy that has said that was only acceptable if both members of the couple were a only child.

According to USA Today, these changes are going to be made as part of a key policy document that was released by the official Xinhua News Agency. This new policy was the result of a four-day meeting of party leaders through Tuesday in Beijing.

CNN says that China will also cut down the amount of crimes that are punishable by death as another part of these radical reforms.
