Is a ‘Glee’ spinoff starring Lea Michele really in the works?

A report this week suggested that Fox and Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy were planning a spinoff for the musical dramedy that would star Lea Michele. However, the network has shot down the rumors.

It all started when Radar Online cited an insider close to the plans, reporting that there are talks for a series that will focus on Michele, since the series itself is nearing its end.

“This will be announced soon,” the source claimed. “They’re making the deals now and it also presents a viable exit plan for the main Glee series itself — in that some of its core cast would also migrate to the Lea Michele project as Glee is showing signs of aging.”

While it is true that Glee is getting old and is set to end after its sixth season, a rep for Fox told The Los Angeles Times that the report is simply not true.

The current plan has Glee ending after its next season. Murphy confirmed last month that the show will end with the season six finale and he has the ending in mind already. It will be another tribute to the late Cory Monteith, who died this past summer suddenly.

Michele recently spoke with Elle Magazine about how she wrote a song for Monteith for her new album. “It makes me so happy, this song,” she said about “Your Mine.” “It makes me think so much of Cory. It was ours. When I think if him, I play this.”
