Mark Wahlberg nearly produced 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

Mark Walhberg admitted on Thursday that he wanted to produce the big screen adaptation of E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey.

The actor talked to Access Hollywood and explained how he was in the running to produce the movie.

"What happened was we had heard about the book really early on and we were in negotiations with the writer and then for some strange reason she thought it was important to have an agent, which she should have, obviously, because she started to realize what she was on to."

Then the opportunity to produce slipped away from Wahlberg. "Then of course, it created a bidding war and everything else and we lost out on an opportunity." He added, "Sometimes you get 'em, sometimes you don't. It's just one of those things."

AH asked if the actor wanted to step in front of the camera and play Christian Grey, but he quickly laughed it off. "An old man like me? They were outraged about the other guy playing the part, what would happen with me?"

As previously reported, it was announced that Eloise Mumford had been cast to play Anastasia Steele's roommate Kate Kavanagh. The producers wanted to cast the role sooner, but when Charlie Hunnam exited, it threw those plans to the wind.

Mumford has appeared in several short-lived shows, such as Lone Star and The River. She also cast in the pilot for Reckless.
