MTV series looks into the lives of sperm donor kids

MTV's new series, Generation Cryo, shows the lives of kids born via sperm donors.

The Associated Press reports that the series was inspired by Breeanna Speicher, an 18-year-old college student, and daughter of two women, who was born via a sperm donor.

Generation Cryo is the result of Wendy Kramer, founder and director of the Donor Sibling Registry, who tried 8 years for a network to gain interest into the subject matter, and MTV responded.

"We know that our audience is interested in stories relating to family, and this is definitely a unique and fresh take that really makes you think about what a family is," series executive producer Marshall Eisen said.

In the first episode, Speicher finds twin brothers who had the same donor. Her main priority is to collect a DNA sample that may lead her to finding the donor. Though they are willing to do it, their father had some concerns.

Throughout the series, Speicher searches for the other 15 siblings who had the same donor, in search for answers about who it is.

"You think you know what to expect," Speicher said. "You think you can handle it. But until you get to that point, there's no way to prepare."

Vince Vaughn's new film Delivery Man also touches on the subject of sperm donors. In the film, Vaughn's character, David, is the biological father of 533 children, and 142 of them are looking for their donor's identity. He takes the time to secretly get to know them and be a part of their lives.

E! News reports that this heartwarming film shows a more grown-up and responsible Vaughn, and is a great family film.

Generation Cryo airs Monday at 10 p.m. on MTV, and Delivery Man is in theaters now.
