Rickey Minor heading back to 'American Idol'

Rickey Minor and his band led American Idol for 9 seasons and went on to The Tonight Show. With Jay Leno’s departure coming in February, Minor jumped at the opportunity to come back to Idol for season 13.

The Hollywood Reporter had the exclusive on Minor’s return to American Idol which was largely driven by hitting it off with new Idol producers Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager while working on VH1’s Divas last year.

Yahoo noted since Minor will return as musical director, this means the Ray Chew Live band will exit. Minor will take advantage of the fact that there are plenty of new faces coming on board to Idol with him including new judges and new producers.

Minor stated to The Hollywood Reporter as well that he really enjoys being able to help young artists discover the artists they want to become, coming up with different arrangements to already great songs, much like Minor had done with Adam Lambert and David Cook. “Our mission is to help them find their voice,” he said. “And surround them by an arrangement that really supports their voice and them as an artist.”

American Idol is slated to premiere on Fox on January 15, 2014.
