Selena Gomez to perform for halftime show of Cowboys' Thanksgiving Day game

The Dallas Cowboys announced that Selena Gomez will provide the halftime entertainment during their Thanksgiving Day before Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

According to the official site of the Dallas Cowboys, the “Who Says” singer will kick off The Salvation Army's 123rd Red Kettle Campaign, the longest-running fundraiser in history. The Salvation Army raises money to help families in need, donating meals, clothing, shelter, Christmas toys and more.

“Dallas is my hometown, and to be invited to perform on behalf of The Salvation Army is such a great honor,” said Gomez. “Giving back is so important, and I am looking forward to kicking off the iconic Red Kettle Campaign and getting those bells ringing across the nation to help families and children in need.”

Gomez isn't the only one who's excited about the Thanksgiving Day performance. “We are thrilled to have Selena kick off the Red Kettle Campaign and be a part of this time-honored tradition,” said Charlotte Jones Anderson, Cowboys executive vice president and chief brand officer. “Her amazing performance, a national stage and huge, enthusiastic fan base will be a powerful start to Red Kettle 2013.”

Gomez dropped a little hint about what we can expect at the performance. “You should expect something new with a twist of old. We had to make it special for my hometown.” Dallas Morning News suggests that hits such as "Naturally," "Round & Round," "Who Says," "Love You Like a Song" and "A Year Without Rain” are sure to be heard.

The singer also added that she always watches the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game and remembers her favorite Red Kettle Kickoff performers. “I don’t think you can be from Texas and not watch a Cowboys Thanksgiving game,” she said.

In the past, the Red Kettle Campaign has had kickoff performers such as last year's, Kenny Chesney, as well as Enrique Iglesias, Keith Urban, the Jonas Brothers, Destiny’s Child, Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire and others.

To donate to the Red Kettle Campaign, fans can visit the Selena Gomez team page or text the word “GIVE” to 80888.
