Judge rules brain dead girl, Jahi McMath, to stay on life support another week

A judge ruled on Tuesday that Children's Hospital Oakland must keep 13-year-old brain dead girl, Jahi McMath, on life support for another week while the family looks for a new place to keep her.

According to The Associated Press, Jahi's mother, Nailah Winkfield, is happy that the judge ruled in their favor.

The hospital has asked that it be allowed to remove Jahi from life support as she has been declared legally dead and they say she has no hope of ever recovering. Her mother feels otherwise as Jahi's heart remains beating.

Jahi's family also wants the hospital to perform a tracheotomy and insert feeding tubes, things the hospital refuses to do as she has been declared legally dead.

Winkfield has said, "Who wants to know the date and the time their child would die?" She noted, "I don't care what anyone has to say about what I'm doing. ... I have to do what is right for me and for Jahi."

ABC News reports that donations to help the family find a new place to house their daughter have exceeded $32,000 as of Monday night.

Omari Sealy, Jahi's uncle, said, "We're just grateful. We want to thank God and everybody out there who prays for us. Keep praying, it's working."
