Kings Plaza shopping mall turns minors away Friday

A mall in Brooklyn, New York turned away unaccompanied teens on Friday after hundreds of minors attacked the shopping mall the day after Christmas.

"It's ridiculous, because I'm trying to buy some stuff," John Edouard, a teen denied entrance, told CNN, "I can't get in."

More than 300 unruly teenagers rushed Kings Plaza shopping mall on Thursday. Around 6 pm the mob of teenagers ran around the mall, beating on glass storefronts while cursing and creaming.

According to New York Daily News, mall officials have asked that minors be accompanied by an adult.

Police sources say that the chaos was prompted by a Facebook post that encouraged young people to put Kings Plaza “on tilt.” Video of the uproar showed girls getting into fights while police tried to stop it as hundreds of kids running through the mall, raiding it.

Abu Taleb, a vendor at the mall, watched as teens raided through his jars of candy. “It was scary,” said Taleb, “Everybody was scared.”

The police were called around 9 pm Thursday to break up the pack of teens. “They weren’t stealing anything,” said an NYPD spokeswoman. “They weren’t assaulting anyone. They were going through the mall, making loud noises. Some were fighting each other.”

Though there is video evidence of what happened, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said that no one has filed a report about being assaulted or robbed.
