Megyn Kelly says Santa comments were 'tongue-in-cheek'

Megyn Kelly slammed critics who made fun of the comments she made about Santa and Jesus on her Wednesday night episode of The Kelly File.

The Fox News anchor made headlines after stopping in the middle of a conversation with contributors and saying to any kids watching the show that Santa was definitely white, as was Jesus.

The comments came up as she discussed Slate's Aisha Harris' article exclusion during the holidays and that maybe Santa shouldn't necessarily be the symbol of Christmas anymore as he is almost always depicted as white.

The day after her comments, Kelly called in sick and wasn't on her show for Thursday night, but was back on Friday ready to address all the critics who derided her comments, the Daily Mail reports.

Kelly claimed that her comments were meant to be "tongue-in-check" and nothing to be taken serious. "Humor is part of what we try to bring to the show. Sometimes that's lost on the humorless."

She added, "You know, I've given (Harris) her due. Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it has to change."

The news anchor spoke about race, noting that it "is still an incredibly volatile issue" in the U.S., but was willing to admit she might have been somewhat hasty in her comments towards Jesus being white, but didn't go back all the way. She simply noted that his skin color is an issue that "is far from settled."
