New Orleans Saints sign kicker Shayne Graham

The New Orleans Saints have signed placekicker Shayne Graham to replace Garrett Hartley.

According to The Times-Picayune, head coach Sean Payton confirmed the signing of Graham on Wednesday morning. The move came one day after the Saints released Hartley, who had been with the team since 2008.

Hartley was successful with New Orleans in postseason trips and Super Bowl XLIV, but has had a down season this year making just 22-of-30 field-goal attempts. On Sunday, the veteran kicker missed two of three kicks in a 27-16 loss to the St. Louis Rams.

The 36-year-old Graham will take over on Sunday when the team visits the Carolina Panthers, which is a game that may decide the NFC South.

Graham has been with several other teams throughout his career. His most recent stint was with the Houston Texans last season. His lifetime field goal percentage is 85.4, notes Pro-football Reference.com.

The team also signed safety Eric Frampton to help with the kicking duties.

"He's someone we had worked out probably two and a half months ago. He excels on special teams," Payton said. "He would give us depth as a backup."
