Santana reconnects with homeless band mate

Rock guitarist Carlos Santana reunited with a former band mate who he hasn’t seen in years and now lives on the streets of Oakland.

San Francisco reporter Stanley Roberts ran into percussionist Marcus "The Magnificent" Malone while working on a story about illegal dumping. He was skeptical about the homeless man’s claims that the band started in his mother’s garage notes the Associated Press, but after some research Roberts confirmed the story.

On Friday, Roberts took Santana to the camper where Malone has been staying for a visit.

"You don't know how afraid I am to let you see me," Malone said after embracing with Santana. "It's an honor to be in your presence,” Santana replied.

Malone was an important influence to Santana’s sound according to singer. Malone played congas on Santana's first album, was imprisoned in 1969 for manslaughter.

According to the Daily Mail, Santana does plan on hooking up with him former band mate, possibly to help him get back on his feet.
