Showtime’s ‘Californication’ set to conclude after seven seasons

Arguably one of Showtimes best series Californication is set to finalize after its upcoming seventh season. The show has been awarded with several Golden Globe and Emmy nominations throughout its run.

This comedy-drama series created by Tom Kapinos has been running since 2007. The show feature Hank Moody (played by David Duchovny), a dysfunctional novelist who moves to California with his longtime girlfriend Karen (played by Natascha McElhone), and drama ensues. The show deals with wild friendships, womanizing, relationships, and a whole lot more shenanigans that go with it.

David Nevins, president of entertainment at Showtime told Variety, “We will always be indebted to Tom Kapinos for leading the creative charge on this memorable comedy, and to David Duchovny for making us root for an unapologetic hedonist like Hank Moody. Tom (Kapinos) has carefully planned the final chapter of Hank’s journey and has brought it to a beautiful and satisfying conclusion for new and long-time fans alike.” This showing the true meaning the series had toward Showtime. Also, it can give fans, (such as myself), peace of mind that the show will finalize on the right note. It also sets up plenty of enthusiasm and anxiety as to what the final season will contain.

The star of the series David Duchovny in an interview with Rolling Stone before the beginning of the last season even throws his opinion in where he’d like to see the show end. “I've always wanted it to end with Hank back home where I feel he belongs, with Karen and Becca nearby, however old she might be. So I guess his development would be more like doubling back to the beginning. In terms of how it's been working out in the show, what I found interesting is in the first year or two, or three, maybe, Hank is really the loose cannon and the guy who goes into a situation and creates chaos, and the comedy of it ensues from the chaos. But what's been interesting over the last couple or two or three years is that Hank has kind of matured into the voice of reason, and those around him have become as crazy as Hank was in the beginning, like Charlie and Marcy and even Karen sometimes, or the guest stars that come in. And Hank has to be the most mature voice, which, to me, is very funny, when Hank is the guy that's trying to be the most logical or mature.” Duchovny really wraps up the irony and deep hilarity that ensues in the show, but also puts forth an opinion that I’m sure many fans would like Californication end in that manner.

The truth is, only Tom Kapinos knows how it will really end, but we can all be anxious to see how it wraps up. The final season of Californication will premiere in April of 2014.
