Steve Martin has issued an apology for a joke he tweeted was deemed racist on Friday. He quickly deleted it but there were still screen shots up long after it disappeared from his account.

He admitted that the joke he made when chatting with fans on the social media site was “highly inappropriate” after some fans were outraged by his remark.
Martin tweeted then deleted a response to a question from a fan: "Is this how you spell lasonia?" The actor replied, "It depends. Are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant?"

The joke received some backlash right away, which prompted Martin to tweet "In retrospect, bad joke...Sorry about that.”

He also tweeted:

E! Online reports last week Martin made a more lighthearted joke about Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, Khloe Kardashian.

"Despite rumors, Khloé Kardashian and I are 'just friends,'" he wrote last Monday. “Be sure to check out my new album, 'Just Friends with Khloé Kardashian.'"
