Teen accused of murdering mother will be tried as an adult

William Brandon Aydelott, the 17-year-old boy accused of killing his mother, Sharon Aydelott, on Christmas Eve, will be charged as an adult.

According to the Associated Press, State Attorney Bill Eddins said he would file a second-degree murder charge on Thursday against Aydelott but will request it be upgraded to first-degree, premeditated murder. If convicted Aydelott could face life in prison.

"Because of the overall nature of the crime, it is our conclusion the circumstances were such that we should seek first-degree murder charges," Eddins said. However due to Florida state law, they cannot seek the death penalty since Aydelott is under the age of 18.

According to PNJ.com, Aydelott and his mother got into a heated argument on Christmas Eve leading him to attack her with kitchen knives and a baseball bat. A visitor found the door to Aydelott’s home ajar and covered with blood. Authorities found Sharon Aydelot lying on the floor near the entrance with multiple wounds on her arms, face and neck. Aydelott confessed to the crime after being found three hours later at a home nearby.

Sharon Aydelott was a middle school science teacher. Her funeral services have not been announced.
