UPS, FedEx fail to deliver Christmas packages on time

Shipping companies UPS and FedEx have come under fire for not delivering Christmas packages in time for the holiday.

According to NBC News, the shipping giants failed to deliver some packages in time Christmas, blaming the delays on inclement weather and a higher demand of online sales.

On Thursday, the companies scrambled to deliver boxes to angry customers who had not yet received the gifts they ordered.

"We're working around the clock to resolve this issue. We're terribly sorry," UPS spokeswoman Natalie Black told CNN.

FedEx spokesman Scott Fiedler did not comment on the delays, but released a statement saying that “300,000 team members were focused on safely delivering our customers packages this holiday season and we are proud of their efforts."

However, customers who were missing gifts under the tree were not happy and took to social media to voice their frustrations.

In response the online retailer Amazon has offered to refund shipping charges and provide gift cards to customers affected.
