American Society of Cinematographers to present award to John Wells

John Wells will receive the American Society of Cinematographers Board of Governors Award this February.

John Wells will be presented the ASC outstanding achievement award. It is given to an individual who has made “extraordinary achievements in advancing the art and craft of filmmaking," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wells has recently received accolades for his work on the film, August: Osage County. Wells told Variety, “This kind of material requires a lot of focus and hard work from the actors every day. One of the jobs of the director is to make certain it’s an atmosphere where they can do their best, where it’s not chaotic, so they can focus because everybody around them is focused. I take that responsibility seriously.”

Wells is a writer, director, and producer. In addition to his work directing films, John Wells was the creative force behind many successful television shows including ER and The West Wing. More recently, he was an Executive Producer on the TV series Southland and Shameless.

The 28th annual ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards will be presented on Feb. 1 at the Hollywood & Highland Ray Dolby Ballroom.
