Arnold Schwarzenegger paid $3 million to appear in Super Bowl Bud Light commercial

Super Bowl commercials are pricey, especially when you want top talent. Bud Light is hoping that its commercial this year is worth it, especially after reportedly shelling out $3 million to get Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in it.

The commercial will feature the former California governor, who rarely does ads. Although he did do an ad in Japan, a source told The New York Post’s Page Six that it’s a “big coup” for the beer company.

ABC News reports that the Terminator star will appear in Bud Light’s “The Perfect Beer for Whatever Happens” campaign, which starts with the Super Bowl spot. There will also be two “Epic Night” commercials, featuring surprise celebrity appearances.

“With the largest television audience of the year, it’s an unprecedented opportunity and we make the most of it,” Paul Chibe, Anheuser-Busch’s vice president of U.S. marketing, said in a statement. “We have a game plan in place this year to deliver creative that celebrates Bud Light and Budweiser while reaching loyal beer drinkers and new generations.”

As reported last month, Fox has already sold out of Super Bowl ad spots. a 30-second spot cost a record $4 million. Other celebrities who will be appearing on TV in between the actual football game are Scarlett Johansson (SodaStream) and David Beckham (H&M). Hulu has also posted a few new commercials in its new Ad Zone.

The Super Bowl is set for Feb. 2 and airs on Fox.
