Electric Ray formed with former BBC executive and Sony Pictures Television

Electric Ray is a new U.K. production banner that is the latest pairing of former BBC entertainment commissioner Karl Warner and Sony Pictures Television.

Karl Warner told Variety, “Their backing means we can be a proper company from day one, both in the U.K. and internationally, and it means we’ll be able to bring broadcasters quality ideas from the off. It’s great to have their resources and commercial expertise to hand, and, like us, they want Electric Ray to be an autonomous young indie with a hunger to prove itself.”

Warner gained accolades in the past for his work on hit shows for BBC1 and BBC3. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner is spearheading a dynamic development team for Electric Ray that will be led by Thomas O'Brien. O’Brien was previously responsible for E4’s Party House and ITV2’sThe Magaluf Weekender.

Electric Ray was named for Karl Warner’s father who was an electrician. The new banner will produce TV shows for both British and international audiences. With the launch of Electric Ray, Sony Pictures Television has 17 companies under their umbrella in 12 countries.
