Former Texas Rangers Michael Young announces retirement

Former Texas Rangers infielder Michael Young is retiring after a 13-year career in the majors. He will officially announce his retirement at a news conference at Rangers Ballpark on Friday.
Young, a seven-time All Star and a Gold Glove winner, spent most of his career playing for the Rangers. During his 12 years with the Rangers, Young hit .301 with 415 doubles and 55 triples in 1,823 games, and 7,399 at-bats, all of which are franchise records, according to the Associated Press. He had 177 homeruns and 984 RBI’s. Young retires as the Rangers hits, doubles, triples, total bases, runs scored, games played, and at-bats.
"He certainly was the face of the organization and he represented his community, organization and family with class," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. . "I certainly hate to see a guy of his status decide it's time. The game of baseball will miss him. I know I will miss him. He meant a lot to me. He had the respect of his teammates and he led like a pro."
Young was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2012 season. Last year he played for the Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He hit .279 with eight homeruns, 26 doubles, and 45 RBI’s last year. Young is one of 16 players to go six seasons with 200 hits. The last time he had 200 hits was in 2011. Only Ichiro Suzuki had more hits, at-bats, and played in more games than Young from 2003 to 2011, according to Fox Sports.
Young will retire with a .300 career average and 185 homeruns and 1,030 RBIs overall. He could have played with the Dodgers this year, but decided to spend more time with his family.
