Garrett Hedlund offered leading role in Joe Wright’s Peter Pan film (Reports)

Tron Legacy star Garrett Hedlund has reportedly been offered the lead role in Pan, the Peter Pan origin film in development at Warner Bros. The project is being directed by Anna Karenina’s Joe Wright.

Warner Bros. and the film’s producers whittled their choices down to Hedlund and Jack Huston (American Hustle, Boardwalk Empire), but ultimately went with Hedlund, reports Deadline.

Later, The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that Hedlund was offered the role.

Warner Bros. is moving fast to make Pan a reality before Disney starts its Peter Pan and the Starcatcher adaptation. It has all come together in the span of three months, with Wright signing on in November. Javier Bardem was tapped for the Blackbeard role, but he has since dropped out. Hugh Jackman is being courted for the part, but it’s still not cemented.

The producer on the project is Greg Berlanti. It will center on how Peter Pan came to Neverland and fought with Blackbeard. Captain Hook and Peter will start out as friends before enemies. The Peter Pan story was created by J. M. Barrie and Pan’s script was written by Jason Fuchs.

Pan hits theaters in 3D on June 16, 2015.

Hedlund starred in Disney’s Tron Legacy and also appeared in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis.
