Jan.22 Birthdays: football player Ray Rice, chef Guy Fieri, and DJ Jeffrey Townes

Today Ray Rice, Guy Fieri, and Jeffrey Townes celebrate their birthdays.

The football running back Ray Rice is turning 27 today. He won the Super Bowl Championship last year with the Baltimore Ravens. Rice is originally from NY and he has been playing football for quite some time. In high school he was the running back and during his junior year the team won a state title in 2003. At New Rochelle High School, Rice still has the record for most yards in one game with 462 yards gained on 42 carries in October 2004.

Rice attended Rutgers University in New Jersey where the action continued. In his freshmen year in 2005, the football team had its first winning season since 1980. During the second year of the International Bowl held in Toronto, Rice performed exceptionally well and received the MVP award. A few days later he publicized his decision to enter the National Football League draft.

Guy Fieri is a chef, author, and television personality best associated with the Food Network turns 46 today. He dreamed of going to France and studying the art of cooking, so he sold pretzels and washed dishes in school to afford the trip. Fieri attended the University of Nevada and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Management. Fieri worked at Stouffer’s and later helped managed one of their restaurants in Long Beach, CA. A few years later he became District Manager of Louise’s Trattoria, where he managed six establishments and helped with hiring and training as well.

Fieri won The Next Food Network Star in the second season and started his show Guy’s Big Bite in 2006. He has since had multiple shows on the Food Network including: Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Ultimate Recipe Showdown, Guy Off the Hook, and more. He also hosted the show Minute to Win It on NBC in 2009. Fieri also wrote a few books like “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives: An All-American Road Trip…with Recipes!” and “Guy Fieri Food: Cookin' It, Livin' It, Lovin' It.”

The Hip-Hop DJ, producer, and actor Jeffrey Townes or DJ Jazzy Jeff turns 49 today. He is most commonly known for his role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as Jazz. Townes is from Pennsylvania and begun to be noticed for his DJing at school and block parties. He won the world DJ championship at the 1986 New Music Seminar DJ Battle.

Townes and Will Smith created the musical group DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince as well act on the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Their musical careers with successful together with gold and platinum albums as well as singles during the later 1980’s and earlier 1990’s. After the group split, Townes became a producer and founded his company, A Touch of Jazz. He has worked with Jill Scott and Musiq. In 2008 at the premier of Hancock, Townes and Smith performed together.
