'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’ makes $1.2 million in Thursday showings

The next horror installment of the highly popular Paranormal Activity, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones made about 1.2 million dollars during late night shows on Thursday.

The next installment opened on 1,600 screens.

Variety reported that the film is currently on track to make an estimated box office total of $15 million to $20 million.

The Hollywood Reporter added that this time last year Paramount released The Devil Inside, also a horror film, that earned about $2 million in Thursday night showings and made $33.7 in revenue opening weekend.

Reviews for the films have been mixed but fans seem to be responding to a fresh cast and storyline.

The film only cost the studio $5 million dollars to make. Jason Blum and Oren Peli signed on to produced the film with Christopher Landon writing and directing.

The studio is also hoping that this film could start its own spin-off franchise. The film stars Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz and Gabrielle Walsh.
