Philadelphia woman gives birth on a sled

The birth of Bella Sophia Bonanni is one that her family will remember for a lifetime.

The morning of the baby's birth, mother Shirley Bonanni, woke up with contractions. Since they were 10 minutes apart, the mom believed to have plenty of time before the baby would be ready for delivery.

Bonanni showered and changed her clothes, but by the time she had finished this, she was not able to walk.

Luckily enough, her husband already had another plan in mind. Since Bonanni was unable to walk down the hill from where their house sat, and her husband was also unable to drive the car up the hill, he concluded that he would place her in a sled and push her down the hill to the car.

In negative 15 degree wind chills, Bonanni's husband placed her in the sled and began pushing her to the car. It was then, that the newborn decided it was time to enter the world.

According to CBS Philadelphia, their neighbors heard the new mom's screams and came to help with the delivery.

George Leader, their neighbor, told CBS Philadelphia that he was on the phone with the 911 dispatcher and helped talk the father through the delivery.

After following directions given, the Philadephia newborn, Bella Sophia Bonanni, was born weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces.

According to NY Daily News, an ambulance arrived not long after and transported the mother and newborn to the hospital. They are reported to be doing fine.
