Pixar making their own 'Star Wars' movie (Rumor)

After Disney acquired the rights to Star Wars from LucasFilm last year, there has been much speculation on what the corporation might do with the popular franchise, most of it focused on the upcoming sequel.

Slash Film reports that Pixar Animation Studios, owned by Disney, may develop their own animated Star Wars movie.

Currently details are almost non-existent on what the plot of the film will be, the creative talent attached, or even if it's happening at all.

According to Indie Wire, although the studio itself has yet to say anything on the subject, the project would likely be a long ways off.

The studio generally releases only one film a year, and they already have three films in development. Together, Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, and Finding Dory are occupying the studio's time through 2016, so 2017 may be the earliest time audiences could see the film, unless the studio has began production on it in secret.

Since purchasing the franchise, there have already been talks of a TV series, comic books, and spinoffs based on popular characters such as Boba Fett and Han Solo. The only confirmed film project right now is the JJ Abrams-directed Episode VII to be released in 2015.

Despite the lack of details, it's not far off to think that Disney would pair George Lucas's massively successful franchise with the acclaimed animation studio, as both have been wildly successful financially.
